February, 2010,
Dear Parents/Guardians, We are now eighteen days away from ISAT testing. Our students and staff continue to work hard to cover the mandated curriculum. Parents, please continue to work with us. Make sure your child completes his/her nightly homework. Practice math facts with your child daily. Encourage your child to read for 30 minutes nightly. Motivate your child to be their best. Parents, it takes a village to educate our children. Students completed the Winter Learning First Benchmark Assessment in mid January. The assessment information has been received by the classroom teachers. Parents, speak to your child about his/her strengthens and weaknesses. Encourage your child to study in their areas of weakness. Teachers will continue to send home practice activities aligned to the Illinois Learning Standards which will help prepare our students academically. The 2010 Local School Council election nomination period is between November 16, 2009 and March 11, 2010. Foster Park School will host a candidate’s forum during the month of March. LSC elections will be held on Report Card Pick-Up day Wednesday, April 21, 2010. For more information call the school’s office, ask to speak to Mrs. Milon. Parents, we are now in the winter months, make sure students dress appropriate. Students should go straight home after school because of the cold weather. Students must be discouraged from throwing snowballs and playing rough because they will be disciplined. Parents, lets continue to monitor our student’s safety. Encourage students to walk in groups. Ensure your child arrives to school on time. Be prompt when picking children up from after school programs. Parents that have not completed updated emergency information forms and return the forms to the classroom teacher must do so immediately. The school must have accurate information in case we need to contact parents in an emergency. Thank you for your support in our effort to keep our children safe. As we continue to encourage appropriate behavior in our students we rewarded our citizenship students with an open gym experience. The students listened to music, danced and enjoyed pizza. A number of students have enjoyed several opportunities sense school started. Congratulations to all of our students who were honored for the month of January. Congratulations to all our students that participated in our school-wide Spelling Bee. All our students performed well. The primary Spelling Bee winner was Diamond Thompson. The upper/intermediate Spelling Bee winner was Ayana Lee. Arica Crenshaw was the 2nd place upper/intermediate competitor. Ayana Lee will represent Foster Park School in the Area 16 Spelling Bee. Congratulation, also, to our students that represented Foster Park School at the Area 16 Science Fair. Benita Brown and Candace Speed symbolized Foster Park School’s high expectations. These students demonstrated a superior knowledge in the area of science. Congratulations to our students that had perfect attendance for the month of January. Additionally, bravo, to those students that had perfect attendance for the semester. These students have demonstrated a tremendous commitment to their education.
Parents, be mindful of the many events and activities that are listed on our school calendar which you can click on in the upper right corner of this page or from the menu on the left under News and Events. Students should use the ISAT practice websites listed on Foster Park’s website. These websites can be accessed from home.
